Person Details

María Clara López Sosa is a bioanthropologist and doctoral researcher at the Department of Anthropology of the Americas at the University of Bonn. Her research investigates cranial and endocranial morphology among early human populations from Mexico and the Americas, with a focus on evolutionary processes and biocultural diversification throughout the Holocene. She applies Virtual Anthropology, Geometric Morphometrics, and multivariate statistical methods to explore morphological affinities, particularly in cranial and endocranial structures, such as the bony labyrinth. Her doctoral project examines early population history and models of initial dispersal in the Americas, as well as the emergence and development of cultural cranial modification in Mexico and Mesoamerica.
She holds a BA in Archaeology from the University of Erlangen-Nürnberg and a MSc in Paleoanthropology from the University of Tübingen. Her broader interests include human evolution and morphological variation, reproducibility in scientific research and science communication.
